Fly-Fest 101: From the beginning (1999) the Curry invited friends and family to join them for a weekend to learn about fly-fishing. It started with a Fall Fly-Fest where friends who had never fly-fished before came to the Curry Barn to see the incrediable structure and take a float trip down the famous San Juan river (the first blue ribbon Trout river in the US). Little did they know that fly-fishing from a boat on the San Juan could be such a unique and exciting experience for the beginner and the professional a like. After the first fly-fest, everyone wanted to return ASAP. As a result, a Spring Fly-Fest was started in 2002. So the tradition began!
After a couple years, friends began to inquire about using the “Barn” for special fly-fests for their friends and customers, most of which have never fly-fished. We now have four hosted fly-fests, two in the Spring and two in the Fall. The advantage of a Hosted Activity be it fly-fishing, golf, or whatever, is that the Curry’s will be on site to arrange guides, prepare food, and explain activity options. It is a hosted activity where the host advises and particupates in the activites.
The cost for a hosted event is cheaper because the costs are spread over multiple attendees. It is also a way to experience the Durango magic without renting the entire “Barn”.
